So this morning I listened to a very angry Russell Pearce regarding the injunction issued by the Judge Bolton of the Federal District Court. The blogosphere and your 24 hour news cycle is riddled with discussion and anaylsis of the law and the validity of the decision, so I don't feel I would add anything unique to that discussion. I have my opinions but since this is a matter that neither affects my life nor my practice, I am going to keep my mouth shut on the merits of the law under the big shadow of Supremacy and the Constitution. What I wanted to write about, however, was the prospect of this law being signed off on by the Supreme Court, if this was an eventual end to the debate. Specifically, I am interested on the effects of such a major shift in national immigration law on the practicing attorneys. Upon first blush, the potential for radical change to a major sector of our legal brethren and how they do business is large.

The Finder's Fee
So lately I have been a bit slow on the blogging front. Sadly, this leads to long winded think sessions that should eventually get to publish but never actually do. The "draft" icon is bearing down on me lately. So on that note, here is something that was meant to be written weeks ago. If you have ever been involved in introducing two parties with similar interests (mutually beneficial business interests that is; not a passion for betting on jai alai) then you are more than likely familiar with the the "finder's fee." That little piece that says "hey, thanks for knowing somebody." Generally, finder's fees are common in business deals. You know a guy, Bob, who sells wicker and your cousin Andy manufactures beautiful (so you tell him) wicker furniture. You get the 2 together and let them know that you want a couple dollars for the trouble of having them buy you drinks and introduce them. It happens all the time. Unfortunately, all the time means all the time, even when it is pretty clear that a finder's fee should land someone with a hefty fine at the very least.

Whimisical Wednesday?
Well in the spirit of trying to take a deep breath all week, I thought I'd share some of my favorite lofi electrofonic inspired rock music. For those of you who don't know Erlend Oye, find him. He maybe one of the most talented musicians around right now. From the super chill melodies of the Kings of Convenience to his solo work as DJ, he makes beautiful, quietly soothing music. Great for ambiance or just a close your eyes kind of moment. And with that, here is his mixture of electronic and rock, the Whitest Boy Alive.

Whimisical Wednesday?
Well, Monday and Tuesday came and went with out a single song. Sadly, this was because I cannot for the life of me find an online version of Emmylou Harris's Green Pastures, a song that gives me chills every time I here it. However, in honor of work as usual. Here is the xx with Islands, a great song to keep the day going along. Enjoy.

Florida Bar Web Site Rules
This morning I sat down with my coffee and did the old school newspaper read, no wires, no streaming ads, just plain black and white print on newspaper. Today's inky delight was the Florida Bar News, a fine publication full of short blurbs about the pseudo relevant. The article that caught my eye, however, was the Florida Supreme Court's allowance of a stay on the implementation of the new rules for websites. The original rule was approved by the Court back in November of 2009. However, since then there has some maneuvering by the Bar and the Court which has resulted in a somewhat confusing version of the rule and a never ending stay of implementation. While I think it is a noble effort by the Bar and the Court to take on the internet and web advertising, I believe that the end result will simply leave us scratching our heads some more.

Frantic Friday
So another Friday has come along. We are frantic to get the weeks objectives cleaned up so we can limit weekend work to 1 or 2 hours. In the hurricane of forceful productivity, I came across another great post by Bijan Sabat that reminds us all to take a deep breath. And so in that spirit, here is one of my favorite songs to help shut off the world for a few minutes, Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap.

Tired Thursday
Ok ok. I'm starting to get the hang of things around here. Just spit it out and move on. So after a failed launch of music posts, I decided why not a song per week day. So in honor of a tired Thursday an the need for a little pep, here's the Born Ruffians with Hummingbird.
